Computer-related technology is increasingly used in today’s society and has been influenced in many ways in classrooms around the world. In Malaysia, the emphasis is placed on teaching using information and communication technology (ICT) and especially the Internet. My question in this article is how the Internet is used to support teaching and learning in primary school classrooms in Malaysia?

All teachers have used the internet to support teaching and learning activities in the classroom, this has been done in various ways and with varying success. In particular, the infrastructure, access, and use of ICT differ between classrooms and schools. The pedagogical aspect of integrating Internet technology into the classroom curriculum is also important. There is significant government investment in information and communication technology (ICT) in education, both in Malaysia and abroad. At the local level, this has spread to all levels of government, including the Malaysian government. Recently, however, the Ministry of Education and Training Malaysia has sought to increase access through the department’s intranet by providing broadband Internet access to all schools. Although there is a continuous improvement in the ICT infrastructure available in schools, many teachers do not use the internet with their classrooms in the best way.

My article focuses primarily on Internet use and aims to analyze teachers ‘and students’ experiences with Internet-based activities in the classroom. ICT provides tools to support interactive and conceptual learning using the internet and has the potential to transform learning in exciting ways. There has been an increase in ICT investment with utilities by the Malaysian Ministry of Education and Training.

As ICT becomes more and more available in society, this is affecting schools today, in part in the hope that schools will use this technology to prepare students for the future. It is now important for schools to provide students with access, knowledge, and skills as they prepare for life in modern society. There is an increasing emphasis on curriculum integration of ICT in Malaysian public schools. The emphasis on this integration includes students’ ICT skills and knowledge distributed across all core learning areas. This growing emphasis is partly due to the Computer Policy in Malaysian Public Schools (CISP), which was launched in 2005 to ensure students’ access to ICT, including access to computers as educational tools in all curriculum areas.

The Malaysian government has proposed to connect all public schools in the state with the Internet to ensure improved ICT integration in the classroom, provide professional development for teachers, install additional computers in schools and develop curriculum support materials. This policy was developed in 2004 when the government published Future Preparation: Workers’ Computer Plans in Schools, announcing the development of the original policy, with improved and expanded Internet access and additional computers placed in schools, and wider professional development of teachers. The emphasis on the use of ICT in the classroom continued in Malaysia, with the Ministry of Education (Malay: MOE) is abbreviated by the Ministry of Education and Training MoNE to develop a set of strategic directions for the public schools.

Ministry of Education (Malay: MOE) allows students to use information and communication technologies with confidence, creativity, and competence to improve their own learning. To achieve this goal, the Department of Education and Training Ministry of Education (Malay: MOE) will develop the ICT skills of teachers and “expand the use of new technologies to support learning and teaching.
